Going through a divorce is challenging enough as it is, but it compounds the
difficulty even further if you aren’t fully prepared and organized. We always
instruct our clients on the importance of preparing for a divorce before officially filing. On the
most recent episode of his weekly “House Divided” radio show, our managing partner Jarrod
Oxendine provided useful information to help our listeners be better prepared for their divorce case.
Every situation is different and the preparation depends on the specifics of each individual case.
For instance, preparing for a divorce involving children where a child custody and parenting time arrangement will be necessary is very different than preparing for the divorce of a childless couple. Also, financial arrangements may need to be made before a divorce is initiated, especially in the case of a high asset divorce. This can include tracking down and arranging pertinent documentation including documents pertaining to marital assets, retirement funds, tax information, and more.
