No two marriages are the same, and it’s impossible to predict what issues may develop in a relationship over time. However, there are several very common issues that we see lead to marital disputes and eventual divorce. These issues range from financial issues, personal differences that develop within the marriage, marital misconduct like infidelity, and more. Here are some of the most common things that can lead to a divorce:
- A couple who never should have been married in the first place, but felt pressured into it due to peer pressure or other external factors.
- Personal, intellectual, moral, or romantic incompatibility that develops in the years after marriage.
- Lack of support from either spouse’s family, friends, or loved ones, or the opposite effect where there is too much involvement and interference from family and friends.
- Lack of commitment that leads to infidelity or extra-marital affairs, including emotional affairs.
- Financial issues, including financial incompatibility, where one spouse differs too much from the other in terms of earning power, spending, financial goals, or similar issues.
- Issues with problem solving, and conflict resolution.
- Physical or emotional abuse.
The one thing all of the above factors generally have in common is that they started from a lack of healthy, honest communication between the parties.
